Germantown, MD

Surf Soccer Club has a new NATIONAL CHAMPION! Following in the footsteps of the U15 ECNL team, Surf U13 team ended their USYS National Cup run with a 4-2 penalty kick shootout victory over the Michigan Hawks to become USYS National Champs. This amazing team started their run with a clean sweep of Group A in the CalSouth National Cup, earning their spot in the knockout rounds. They won 5 consecutive knockout round games, beating Del Mar Sharks, Westside Breakers, Legends FC, Laguna Hills Eclipse and Arsenal FC West to advance to National Cup Regionals. At Regionals, the girls were a perfect 3-0 in their group, advancing to the quarterfinal knockout stage, where they continued their run by beating Beach FC, Arsenal FC and FC Heat (NV), securing their spot in the National Finals! At the National Finals, Surf team breezed through their first two group games 4-0 vs South Shore Elite (MA) and 3-0 vs Dallas Kicks (TX), before falling 0-1 to Michigan Hawks in a tune-up match for the finals. After a back and forth game vs Michigan Hawks in the finals in which both teams had chances to score, the game ended 0-0 and went to overtime, and then penalty kicks. The Surf girls slotted home 4 of 5 shots while Golden Glove Goalkeeper MacKenna Carmichael stopped 2 of 4 shots to win the National Championship! Congratulations to the U13s, who brought Surf Soccer Club their second National Championship in 2014 and their 9th overall in club history.
